Time and again, some trademark or company name becomes so famous, it ends up a generalised label for what it is an example of. Hoover, for vacuum cleaners. Girls Gone Wild for drunken spring break nudity. Does it deserve this place in our lexicon, name-checked by The Simpsons? Let us delve...
So let's see now...gonzo footage of girls on spring break...girls showing boobs in exchange for gaudy beads or t-shirts...drunken co-eds stripping off to an almost constant background of whooping noises...several hours later...These are real, actual, not-a-word-of-a-lie college-age cuties, in their natural environment. Out partying. There are the aforementioned cuties, many hotties, and both are enticed out of their clothing for our enjoyment. Sad to report then, that what we have here is little more than an extended advertisement for the DVDs they'd like to flog you, with a few deleted scenes. The video is presented in triple format- Flash, Quicktime, and WMV. I had to switch to Internet Explorer to get WMV to work, as Firefox seemed to have none of it. Flash worked in both, but lacked any kind of controls to pause or rewind, for instance. Quicktime seemed a failure on both browsers. I was unable to download the files, confirming for me that this was a sales pitch in a thin disguise.
I may have been able to cope, were it not for the slow speeds I experienced, causing the streaming video to hiccup every few minutes, or if said visuals had been of the high, DVD quality the site promises. They were emphatically not, being in actuality, rather grainy and low-res. Verdict? If you think you'd like to add some GGW videos to your media shelf, consider the 3 day, $4.95 pass, and treat yourself to a deluxe commercial break. Otherwise, avoid.
